About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Pittsburgh at 5001 Curry Rd, Storms Restaurant & BYOB offers an authentic Italian dining experience that charms locals and visitors alike. Specializing in classic Italian flavors, this beloved eatery has gained a reputation for serving heartwarming, traditional dishes that evoke memories of a small Tuscan trattoria.

From the moment you step inside, the inviting atmosphere sets the stage for a memorable meal. Despite its modest exterior, the interior buzzes with warmth and conviviality — often filled with the joyful chatter of satisfied diners. It’s a cozy, bustling space where attentive service meets a genuine passion for Italian cuisine.

The menu at Storms is a celebration of Italy’s rich culinary heritage, offering a variety of standout dishes that delight the palate. Start your meal with tempting appetizers like the Fried Zucchini, thinly sliced and fried to a golden crisp, perfectly accompanied by tangy marinara and a sprinkle of Romano cheese. Another favorite is the Stuffed Banana Peppers, baked with sweet sausage, mozzarella, and vibrant medleys of hot sausage, onions, and peppers under a blanket of marinara sauce—each bite layered with comforting depth and warmth.

Salads here provide a fresh counterbalance to the rich entrees. The Caesar Salad is a classic hit, featuring crisp romaine hearts tossed in a flavorful Caesar dressing with crunchy croutons and roasted sweet peppers. For something heartier, the Wedge Salad delivers a satisfying crunch with iceberg lettuce, juicy tomatoes, cucumber, crispy bacon, and bleu cheese crumbles.

When it comes to the mains, Storms truly shines. Indulge in the tender, flavorful Veal Parmesan or the delectably sauced Chicken Marsala. Seafood lovers can’t go wrong with the Petite Filet and Crabcake Special, which showcases decadent textures and refined taste. Other showstoppers include the Meatball Stew, the spicy and savory Fra Diavolo, and the elegantly prepared Zucchini Saltimbocca. Each dish is crafted with care to balance bold flavors without overpowering garlic or heavy seasoning, capturing the essence of traditional Italian home cooking.

Pair your meal with a glass of crisp Riesling or bring your own favorite bottle to complement the BYOB policy, adding a personalized touch to your dining experience.

Customers rave about Storms, often citing the unexpectedly delightful ambiance that invites them to put aside any preconceptions based on its unassuming façade. Reviewer 'mrrkr3' sums it up perfectly: “If you drive up to Storms and get scared about the way the place looks from the outside, do yourself a giant favor and stop being scared and go inside. You’ll find the most amazing restaurant with great food, wonderful atmosphere, and friendly staff.”

‘Matthew Bianchini’ echoes this sentiment, calling Storms “A slice of Italy right here in Pittsburgh,” celebrating the crispy, perfectly cooked Fried Brussel Sprouts and the warm hospitality. Another loyal guest, ‘wendy graham,’ appreciates the attentive service and quality that brought her back after some missed runs, praising server Amber's skillful balance of professionalism and lighthearted charm.

Even with a bustling dining room that buzzes with lively conversation, Storms maintains its genuine charm and delivers consistent food quality that many liken to cherished Italian family recipes. While some note that the sound levels can be a little high in such an intimate space, this liveliness is part of what makes dining at Storms a joyous, authentic experience.

Whether you’re seeking elegant Italian classics like Eggplant Parmesan and Chicken Piccata, or crave comfortable, lovingly made favorites like hearty pastas and meatball appetizers, Storms Restaurant & BYOB invites you to savor each bite through a delightful culinary journey that feels like home.

A Slice of Italy Right Here in Pittsburgh! Bellissimo! If you're craving authentic, heartwarming Italian food, look no further than Storms. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and genuinely authentic—it feels like a family-run trattoria straight from a small village in Tuscany. We started with the Fried Brussel Sprouts, they were perfectly crisp and light. For the main course, I had the Chicken Parmesan and it was divine—clearly made with high-quality ingredients. My partner ordered the Chicken Picatta which was hearty and delicious. The service was excellent; our waiter was incredibly attentive. Storms delivers a five-star dining experience. We're already planning our next visit!

We discovered Storms in its current location a few years ago and loved it until it fell off our radar due to a few subsequent sub par experiences. We gave it another shot on Friday, October 31 and were so glad that we did! Amber was a terrific server-good sense of humor without being cloyingly familiar, knowledgeable about the menu and portions, and attentive without hovering. Everything from the Breadworks bread, fried zucchini appetizer, house salads, and the "Trio Special" (amazing scallops, spots Romano, and grilled shrimp) were delicious. We also appreciate that there is no corkage fee with the BYOB policy. I'm spreading the word and can't wait to go back.

Amazing excellent food and service. The stuffed peppers, pasta bolangase, and spaghetti and meatballs were just like when we were in Italy. Super flavorful sauces but not over spiced or no heavy garlic. OUTSTANDING

Whether dining in or picking up an order, Storms is wonderful. I have never been disapppointed with the food, going back to when I first discovered them at the old downtown location. I only took away one star from my Atmosphere rating because the dining room is far too small and needs some way to absorb sound. It seems like a rowdy barroom sometimes with the loud chatter. But don't let that deter you from one of the area's best Italian restaurants.

The side salad was great, I really enjoyed the eggplant add shrimp parmesan. The fresh bread they put on the table is also very good. My party was already there we joined them. Was a great place for my stepsister's 53rd birthday party.
